    Wildberry Lodge, Leicaster

While we usually visit New England each fall this year we set out for western North Carolina to enjoy the fall foliage in the Blue Ridge and Smokey Mountains and we were not disappointed. Throw in a spectacular lodge in a mountain setting with wonderful hosts, Glenda and Ken Cahill, outstanding food and views that go on forever - the vistas from Wildberry Lodge are breathtaking.

Located on a hill at 2700, the lodge is a perfect getaway. Rooms are spacious with comfortable furniture, luxury linens, CD players, spa robes and a nice assortment of bath products to mention a few of the amenities. The beds are extremely comfortable and rooms have good reading lamps. Several rooms have their own decks, all have views.

Glenda and Kens son, Eric, is a culinary student who assists at the inn several nights a week. While we were at the inn, Eric was there for a couple of evenings and prepared evening snacks and desserts that we enjoyed when returning at the end of the day. His rugelach melted in your mouth.

The great room with its massive stone fireplace is ideal for relaxing, reading, playing a board game or chatting with other guests. This room is adjacent to the dining area and the open kitchen. A TV/VCR and sofa are located in the loft along with videos and an assortment of books. You will also find cold drinks and snacks here. If you prefer, the Game Room has a pool table and another TV. Our favorite spot to sit was on the expansive deck and just enjoy the views.

Glenda is an accomplished cook and her breakfasts were wonderful. In addition to an assortment of juices, during our stay we enjoyed broiled grapefruit, steamed eggs on homemade bread, chicken apple sausage, potatoes, praline muffins, pumpkin pancakes, spiral cut ham and apple chutney.

There is so much to do in the area so you do need to leave the lodge. We spent several days just exploring the area and driving through the Smokies.
The lodge and the area was a perfect choice for fall.
