I have just returned from my fourth visit to
The Chalet Club, and each visit makes me yearn to return for another. There are no signs directing guests to Chalet Club, and there is no sign identifying the inn once you arrive. Rather, it is more like arriving at the secluded mountain home of old friends from whom a special invitation has been received.
In the typical manner of an old mountain home, the guest rooms/cabins are not decorated in a designer showcase style or with luxurious appointments. However, everything is spotlessly clean and comfortable;the rooms are like one might expect to find at a beach cottage where relaxation is the main priority.
All meals are served at this B&B, and each is delicious. When the weather permits, breakfast is served on the terrace overlooking a spectacular vista of Chimney Rock and Hickory Nut Gorge below.
An ideal getaway year-round,this is the best place I know in NC to take children as a wide array of fun activities (water sports included) abound. There is even a special ping-pong hut where fountain drinks are self-served that caters to young people.
For over 60 years, The Chalet Club has been in the Washburn family and dedicated to making each guest feel special and cared for. This is a one-of-a-kind bed and breakfast inn that I look forward to returning to as often as I can. --Maxine
