Heidi and Dave Lanford are so enjoying being innkeepers and it’s apparent in the way they interact with their guests. Friendly and welcoming, always ready to assist, make recommendations or just chat.
Built to accommodate guests, the inn is situated in a wooded location close enough to the interstate to make it accessible to all the Shenandoah Valley. Visit nearby wineries, rediscover the past by touring Montpelier, Monticello and historic Michie Tavern, where we had lunch, go antiquing in Staunton, shop and be entertained at the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville. At the end of day return to the casual luxury of the Iris Inn and be rejuvenated. Whether in the Great Room or back deck, your room and its private deck, the Lookout Tower or hot tub on the ground level of the tower, you cannot help but relax.
Guest rooms and suites are large, with all the modern conveniences but the décor is traditional. All rooms have TV’s and refrigerators stocked with complimentary beverages. One of the several swings on the decks surrounding the inn sat outside our room and once my hubby settled in, it was hard to move him.
Breakfast was delicious and filling, including fresh fruit and a quiche. The cookie jar is available all day as are hot beverages.
Our stay was too short. Heidi and Dave are delightful and even though they are fairly new owners, it’s easy to see why people return. The Iris Inn is wonderfulness….

Dining recommendation: South River Grill – casual setting, good food, great wine selection.
