Experienced innkeeping couple seek new jobs and an eventual purchase

We are looking for an inn to manage, preferably one with 8-10 rooms or more. We have owned two college-town inns in Virginia, one a startup, both highly successful. A couple years ago we sold the property and invested in another business that we do not enjoy. The property market is slow and attempts to sell this and return to b&b ownership have faltered. We've now leased that business to a new operator and are looking for an inn to run and perhaps eventually to buy when the economy turns,

Our inns were 5 and 7 rooms, the latter with a 6 apartment extended stay building next door. Clientele included many businss people (there were no decent hotels in the town) in addition to sightseers and the expected college town visitors--parents, university job candidates, students, speakers. With some part-time help, we did all the work from marketing to housekeeping. One of us has a professional background as a school headmaster, the other in upscale private clubs and 4 star hotels with professional schooling in the UK. We have been together since 1988. Prior to innkeeping our work was largely in Europe and the Middle East.

We are flexible in location but prefer to be at least near a sizable metro area. Both of us can work full-time or one can run the inn and the other take outside employment. We are non-smokers and basically non-drinkers but do have a couple dogs. Excellent references, both personal and professional are available. Financial arrangements definitely negotiable depending on location, innkeeper quarters, full/prat-time responsibilities, need for 1 or 2 employees, etc. Our ideal post would be with someone in a similar business situation to us--wanting to sell but not able to find a buyer.

We anticipate that within a couple years we will be in a position to buy again and our preference would be for an inn whose owners would think of eventually selling....but that is not absolute.

Please let us know what you have. Cell is 540-330-4873; availability by mid or late August. Thanks, Gerry Shields & Roland Labadan

Re: Experienced innkeeping couple seek new jobs and an eventual purchase

The Inn on the Riverwalk in San Antonio is searching for the right fit . . .we're looking for someone super friendly - LOVES serving and taking care of people - and LOVES cooking and cleaning ;-) ...oh and shopping. We're a 14 room B&B that just won the 2008-09 Best of BED and BREAKFAST award . . .we're looking for a creative mind that can help bring a smile, great breakfast and extra creativity for us to get through some tough economic times.

    Role and Responsibilities:
    Onsite Manager

    tasks include:
        - Cook & serve Breakfast - we have up to 30+ guests - we currently serve full buffet style breakfast (pancakes, sausage, OJ, cereal) and would like to continue that experience (HAPPY SMILES in the morning is a MUST)
        - Shopping for food - cost effective budget is a must in this economy - looking for someone to maximize breakfast at a low cost price - shopping for all breakfast (and cleaning) items will be required
        - Full responsibility of "The guest experience" (help check in guests, manage safety, help  maintenance requests get filled by appropriate service person, ensure house cleaners do their jobs etc)
        - Responsible for Inn's management; i.e. safety (ensure doors are locked), attractiveness (yard appearance and watering plants at night)
    Side Roles:
       - Wedding/events assistant - coordinating, cleaning up, etc.
      - Sales assistant - we have a full time sales manager - however the onsite manager will be encouraged to help find fun creative ways to help bring in extra revenue for the Inn - i.e. tea time? events? parties etc.

    Expectations:
    - There are no 'set' hours for this role - the role can feel as much as 24x7 - it is not expected, however, that the position will ever take up to more than 8-10 consecutive hours per day
    - Role to start as soon as able to be onsite at the Inn
    - Compensation to start immediately after onsite at the Inn and taking over responsibilities
    - Role takes precedence over housing. If roles and responsibilities are not kept through, and the position is lost, so does the compensation including housing. A 30 day notice/grace period will be given.

    Compensation:
    - Full use of living quarters at 124 Woodward Pl. Includes payment of all utilities; elect, gas, water, TV and internet access. ($19,200/yr worth of compensation)
    - + $13,000/year base salary (paid $500 every two weeks)
    - At least 1 day a week off work full duties (meaning no working at the Inn - perhaps very light guest request - but only if available)
    - At least 2-3 consecutive full days off a month - (meaning you leave the Inn - visit another B&B - go camping etc)
    - 1 week full paid salary for vacation per year (grows 1 day extra per year worked up to a limit of 20 days per year)
    - 1 week full paid salary for sick leave per year (grows 1 day extra per year worked up to a limit of 20 days per year)
    TOTAL COMPENSATION: $32,200 per year

PLEASE don't respond to INN . . email me directly at
    johanna_gardner@yahoo.com

    Thanks!

Re: Experienced innkeeping couple seek new jobs and an eventual purchase

Hello!  As of now, Nov. 20, 2009, are you still seeking the postion/services you have advertised? I would also like to know what area/state your are interested in being in if you were to buy an Inn. I am asking because, I have an established upscale Inn/ rental estate property (11 years in business) currently on the market for sale that matches your interests (wanting to sell, but not able to find a buyer), but before we correspond further, I would like to ask if you have a certain location/state that you are thinking of. I would like to talk with you further-- maybe we are just what each other is looking for......Look forward to hearing from you!
