can I legally specific NO CHILDREN allowed at our inn?

Are there any legal rules that prevent me from specifying 'No Children allowed' at our inn?  We are an adults only property.

State laws vary on this -- some specifically prohibit discrimating against children, other don't.  If you are from California, I believe (not completely sure) that California prohibits discriminating against children.

Some steps that innkeepers take on this:

    1.  Limit occupancy to two per room; most parents want the kids to sleep in the same room, and don't want to pay for a second room for the kid(s).

    2. Noting that the inn is appropriate and is designed for adults, with little to entertain/occupy kids.

    Hope this helps!

What Sandy said is exactly what I do here. Some will even say - "But it's a baby" and I say a baby is a person too. I am leagally licensed to only accommodate two persons per room.

I hope so.  And of course we love babies but those little bundles of joy can sure pack a mean shriek!  Kinda does something to the mood when one is trying to enjoy a road less traveled or are celebrating a blissful anniversary or romantic candlelit meal with their paramour.

The kiddies have ALL MANNER of places to recreate.  Let's leave at least one place where we big kids can escape to.  So that we can recharge to take care of the kiddies, our jobs, the elderly and, and, and--

We can here in Virginia. Depends on the state. I've heard you cannot in Canada. And listing that you have nothing with which to entertain children will not stop them trying to come.

My website notes we are a "wine country inn" and as wine is part of the amenitites in the room all guests must be 21, and they still try to book. I say we have none of the day-to-day necessities and they say "no problem, we'll bring them".

We have a vineyard with an electric fence, poison ivy in the woods, nothing to entertain kids and offer wine tasting tours, and they still want to bring them. There's nothing more boring for a child than to be hauled to four wineries.
