We have owned two college-town inns in Virginia, one a startup, both highly successful. A couple years ago we sold the property and invested in another business that we do not enjoy. The property market is slow and attempts to sell this and return to b&b ownership have faltered. We've now leased that business to a new operator and are looking for an inn to run and perhaps eventually to buy when the economy turns,

Our inns were 5 and 7 rooms, the latter with a 6 apartment extended stay building next door. Clientele included many businss people (there were no decent hotels in the town) in addition to sightseers and the expected college town visitors--parents, university job candidates, students, speakers. With some part-time help, we did all the work from marketing to housekeeping. One of us has a professional background as a school headmaster, the other in upscale private clubs and 4 star hotels with professional schooling in the UK. We have been together since 1988. Prior to innkeeping our work was largely in Europe and the Middle East.

We are flexible in location but prefer to be at least near a sizable metro area. Both of us can work full-time or one can run the inn and the other take outside employment. We are non-smokers and basically non-drinkers but do have a couple dogs. Excellent references, both personal and professional are available. Financial arrangements definitely negotiable depending on location, innkeeper quarters, full/prat-time responsibilities, need for 1 or 2 employees, etc. Our ideal post would be with someone in a similar business situation to us--wanting to sell but not able to find a buyer.

We anticipate that within a couple years we will be in a position to buy again and our preference would be for an inn whose owners would think of eventually selling....but that is not absolute.

Please let us know what you have. Cell is 540-330-4873; availability by mid or late August. Thanks, Gerry Shields & Roland Labadan

aspiring assistant innkeeper looking for opportunity

My name is Ashley Whitmoyer. My background includes working in Training & Development for Sunstone Hotels, LLC as well as having held the position of Membership & Social Director for Aberdeen Golf & Country Club in South Florida.

I have my Bachelors degree in Communications with a Minor in Public Relations, and I am no stranger to hard work. I am not afraid of housekeeping duties, light maintenance, gardening, light cooking, or any other task you may need done. While I am a seasoned and organized manager, the thing I like best about my career is making a difference in someone's day. I have had many opportunities as an employee training & development specialist to do so, but now I want to transfer those skills to the calling of my heart: managing a small B&B, meeting people from all walks of life, and taking good care of the inn and its guests.

As far as compensation, I am willing to work for room/board for the first few months if necessary (and if I have help), but I would ultimately like to negotiate a salary plus room.

If you are looking for a seasoned, polished professional person with extensive life experience and management skills to run your special place, please feel free to contact me. My location is flexible. I do not smoke or drink, and I am a first-rate housekeeper (in fact, I like to clean) and administrative professional.

I would consider working at a larger Inn, if the right opportunity is presented. Resume provided upon request. I have already attached a list of professional references to this posting. Please note that I have a medium-sized dog named Gizmo who is my best friend and associate. I am seeking an inn where Gizmo will also be welcome. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Kind regards,

KD

Chef Seeks Inn

Ken Hulme
TheKiltedCook@Mindspring.com

I began my culinary journey more than twenty years before I first “hung out my skillet” as a Personal Chef in 2002. A now ex-wife was a terrible cook, and as a result I taught myself to cook really good food in self defense! We're a 14 room B&B that just won the 2008-09 Best of BED and BREAKFAST award . . .we're looking for a creative mind that can help bring a smile, great breakfast and extra creativity for us to get through some tough economic times.

Role and Responsibilities:

Onsite Manager

tasks include:
    - Cook & serve Breakfast - we have up to 30+ guests - we
currently serve full buffet style breakfast (pancakes, sausage, OJ,
cereal) and would like to continue that experience (HAPPY SMILES in the
morning is a MUST)
    - Shopping for food - cost effective budget is a must in this
economy - looking for someone to maximize breakfast at a low cost price
- shopping for all breakfast (and cleaning) items will be required

    - Full responsibility of "The guest experience" (help check in
guests, manage safety, help maintenance requests get filled by
appropriate service person, ensure house cleaners do their jobs etc)

    - Responsible for Inn's management; i.e. safety (ensure doors are locked), attractiveness (yard appearance and watering plants at night)
Side Roles:
   - Wedding/events assistant - coordinating, cleaning up, etc.
  - Sales assistant - we have a full time sales manager - however the
onsite manager will be encouraged to help find fun creative ways to
help bring in extra revenue for the Inn - i.e. tea time? events?
parties etc.

Expectations:

- There are no 'set' hours for this role - the role can feel as much as 24x7 - it is not expected, however, that the position will ever take up to more than 8-10 consecutive hours per day

- Role to start as soon as able to be onsite at the Inn

- Compensation to start immediately after onsite at the Inn and taking over responsibilities

- Role takes precedence over housing. If roles and responsibilities are not kept through, and the position is lost, so does the compensation including housing. A 30 day notice/grace period will be given.
