After a reader recommended that I consider visiting and reviewing Songbird Prairie B&B (www.songbirdprairie.com) in Valparaiso, IN, I checked out the inn's Web site. I could see right away that it was, indeed, an inn I wanted to visit for myself.

Once I arrived, I found the inn to be even better on-site than online. Not only is it a mecca for bird lovers (a wide variety of colorful songbirds can be observed, at close range, throughout the day), but the songbird theme is tastefully carried out throughout the inn. Double-covered chocolate truffles, topped with a candied nest filled with colorful candied bird eggs, are placed on the bed table (presented in a crystal dome) in the guest rooms at turn-down.

Everything at this inn is top quality--including the luxurious European linens and towels. Each room, named after a songbird, is handsomely appointed with impressive amenities.The 3-course breakfast, served in a beautiful glassed-in dining area overlooking a wooded area, is superb. The innkeepers, Barbara and Ephrain, have mastered the art of innkeeping and are gracious hosts.
