Upon our arrival at The Yellow House we found that a new innkeeper, Susan Cerise had just taken over ownership the prior week. Since fall is extremely busy in the mountains, I have to say that Susan handled her full house beautifully. Not a beat was missed and all the guests were very pleased. She plans to add her own personal touches over time but the house and guest rooms are beautifully furnished and for now Susan is making sure all her guests are comfortable and well fed.
When we arrived, we were given a tour of the house and common areas and invited to join the other guests for an afternoon reception in the living room. Wine, cheese and a variety of nibbles were offered as guests chatted about their day and along with Susan made recommendations for dinner. We were pleased that she was able to secure last minute reservations for us at a popular restaurant in Waynesville.
We stayed in the light and airy Montecito room with large shuttered windows separated by bookcases, queen size canopy bed and fireplace. Table and side chairs created a sitting area and there was also an upholstered chair by the fireplace with additional lighting. In addition to the robes we found in the large closet, there was a small refrigerator secluded there that held water and soft drinks. Also offered were fixings for coffee and tea. An extremely comfortable room.
Common areas include the living room, dining room and library as well as the porch and garden; which I understand is magnificent in summer. Since the house sits on a hill many rooms have views of the Blue Ridge Mts.
Breakfast is served in the dining room at a large table with a couple of smaller tables to accommodate the full house. Juice, coffee and tea of course is offered and an apple compote preceded our entre which was a delicious French peasant casserole.
We had dinner in Waynesville at Wildfire extremely popular with local patrons as well as tourists. Several guests dined there more then once during their stay. Even with reservations, there was a slight wait but well worth it.
Great B&B, charming new innkeeper, lovely rooms and good food. We do recommend. More info: http://www.bedandbreakfast.com/north-carolina-waynesville-theyellowhouse.html
