    Copper Crest Resort: Don't go!

angry Don't go to the Copper Crest Resort!!! At least not in the next few years.  A friend and I planned a great trip to Asheville, NC over the Labor Day weekend.  We wanted to stay in a charming B&B, visit Biltmore, etc.  We found the Copper Crest Resort and Inn and thought it looked like a fun, affordable place.  However...the first thing that went wrong was that the directions on the web site were completely wrong and it took us nearly an hour longer to get there than it should have, THEN we get there and our rooms were overpoweringly musty and moldy (bad for people with allergies).  We did get new rooms, which were only moderately better than the original ones.  Breakfast was a joke...cold eggs, oatmeal, grits, cold cereal, cold English muffins, lukewarm coffee.  There wasn't even salt and pepper on the tables.  The chairs were folding chairs, which did not inspire confidence when sitting in them.  The place has wonderful potential.  The main house is absolutely beautiful but when you are paying the kind of money even the cheap rooms cost, you expect a good bit more than you get.  Also, it's about 30 minutes away from Asheville.  The owner has not gotten in touch with us about compensation, after two phone calls, so that means that he's not really concerned about his guests.  If you want a great Asheville experience, stay at the Black Walnut Inn or any other inn actually located in Asheville!

    Copper Crest Resort: Don't go!

I wish I had found your post before making a reservation for Sunday night Oct 16th.sad  From the website this place looks amazing. But beware!!!

We have been traveling around the Asheville and Charlotte Area for the last 12 days and found all our accommodation online. I point this out to show that we have not seen any place so grossly misrepresented by their website. It states on the website "Re-opened after an extensive renovation, Copper Crest is a place to enjoy the new and the historic. Renovations continue throughout the property to make it a dream location for all to enjoy."

Well if you call half the graden rooms still full of junk and unusable as continued renovations that's a bit of an overstatement. The main house looks wonderful and I am sure the suites are great but the garden rooms are not up to the website representation. The room had a nice bed and the bathroom is new but the windows on the outside are the old levered type that don't close all the way and you are left hearing the neighbors, the guy mowing, the dogs barking.....not the relaxing sounds of a lake resort. The blinds are the cheap plastic type that don't close completely and there are no curtains. No feeling of privacy.

The house and garden rooms are NOT on a Lake nor is there a view of the Lake from your room. There are old homes between the resort and the Lake. It is not a long walk to the small lake but you do not get the feel of being on a lake like such places as the Scenic Overlook at Pilot Mountain or the Greystone Inn on Lake Toxaway. We stayed at both of these locations on our trip and they properly represent their lakeside location. Both are wonderful and their websites understate if anything their locations.

The pool and tennis courts are usuable. The pool was full of leaves and looked as if it had not been cleaned for days. We asked about another room and were offered only a suite which was quoted earlier when we called as $285.00 a night. (Really what I consider overpriced for the condition of the resort.) Instead we asked for a refund. We were told when we made this reservation that there was a no refund policy but considering the condition of the resort we felt the misrepresentation on the resort warranted a refund. We did not stay the night but were charged for the stay.

I did call the next morning and speak with Debbie Funk and asked for the manager. Debbie stated the manger was not available but could she help me. I began to explain the stay and she then stated SHE was the manager. That is not a good sign when the manager lies about their position. I asked again for a refund due the to the condition of the resort and windows and lack of privacy of the room and she stated we "did not pay for the whole resort only a room." and "you were offered another room." True but we did pay for a resort accommodation which in all of our previous travels and stays has always meant the whole common areas, pool and all.... Any place that would rather take your money and doesn't care if your comfortable at best...must really be in a bad way and needs the money. I call if fraud to misrepresent your services. Out $135 and we are glad we ran from this place.

    Sad....Beware.

    Copper Crest Resort: Don't go!

I have to agree with the last posters, only it was worse for me. I booked online for a suite and received conformation with my payment. When I arrived the front desk said I could not have booked the suite as it was booked up for one year. I was offered a room that was unfinished. No electricity in the room. Hot and cold dials reversed on the shower. Service was horrible. The grounds were a joke and the property was not on the lake as the website suggests. Avoid this place at all costs.
