Here's a strong recommendation from a long-time B&B traveler:
"My wife & I stayed in Pittsburgh July 19-23, 2008 for a convention and could not find a room in any of the 4 star hotels. We did stay at the Renaissance for two nights. The convention was at the Westin, so we had that experience too. The Westin too was booked solid. We trust Trip Advisor's ratings and the NY Times suggestion of The Parador, a Carribean Style B&B, as a great place to stay. It is under new ownership, two years now, of Ed Menzer. Ed installed central air-conditioning, Victorian, Carribean, and Key West Style furnishings with appropriate music throughout. The website is very accurate with pictures and details. We were able to determine availability from the website and Ed Menzer, the inn keeper booked us. We enjoyed our stay and offer this comparison with the four stars Renaissance: Rate $ 299. Vs. $ 150 for the Parador; parking and breakfast included. Both have king beds; the room at the Parador was larger and better appointed with all of the conveniences one could want. It was everything Trip Advisor said and more. There is even Razor, a black Lab, the friendliest dog on earth. The Parador with its informality and relaxed atmosphere, ambiance, and beauty, made this an excellent choice. Breakfast was varied, ample, and excellently prepared. Ed gave us the grand tour and explained the operation of all equipment, something we did not enjoy at the Renaissance. Another unique feature is the garden. This is hard to describe without actually being there. It has a fountain, flowers, benches, walks, and numerous varieties of plants and status. The rooms are large with unique appointments in each and all for one price. In summary it is well worth a visit."
